KARACHI, Aug 23: The Chief Secretary, Fazalur Rehman, has asked city government authorities to hold a presentation on the evolutionary matters of Faizi Rehamin Art Gallery and its reactivation so that a meaningful action could be taken for promotion of fine arts and culture and consolidation of cultural traditions.

He was addressing a meeting held at his office on Tuesday with regard to revival of the film and cinema industry in Karachi.

The meeting was attended by Samina Pirzada, Secretary Culture Mehtab Akbar Rashdi, Secretary Information Fasihuddin Khan, Secretary Finance Malik Israr Hussain, Secretary General Administration Abdul Qadir Mangi, Secretary Excise and Taxation Mir Hussain Ali, Secretary Local Government Ishaq Lashari, EDO Raisuddin Paracha and Additional Secretary Industries Kaleem Makki.

On a proposal by Ms Pirzada, for establishment of a film/cinema city, it was decided that she would prepare a presentation under a formally registered organization in the backdrop of a coordinated strategy whereafter the Sindh government would play its part as per rules and regulations.

In the meeting, Secretary Culture Mehtab Akbar Rashdi gave a briefing on the government’s steps taken for augmentation of activities of the Arts Council, promotion of fine arts and recreational activities.

The chief secretary asked the CDGK officials to set up a committee for implementing effective measures for health and sanitation in the city.

It was decided that lectures would be organised at some institutions for promotion of literature and cinema/film education. However, first, the proposals to be contained in the presentation by Ms Pirzada would be looked into.—APP
