Eradicating polio

Published February 17, 2020

THIS refers to the news item ‘Four new cases of polio detected in Sindh, Punjab’ (Feb 1). The prevalence of polio has been on the rise again since 2019.

The negligent government should be blamed for this misery which affects children under the age of five. While there is no cure for this virus, there is prevention in the form of vaccine. But our government does not seem to be working against this disease effectively.

The National Emergency Action Plan (NEAP) had reduced the disease, but this menace started resurfacing in 2019 after the PTI government came to power.

The government should take proper action against polio and focus specially on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which is the most affected province.

The people should cooperate with polio workers.
