RAHIM YAR KHAN: A woman allegedly drowned her two minor daughters in a canal during a suicide bid following a quarrel with her husband over sending her money in Liaqatpur tehsil, some 95kms from here on Saturday.

As per Rescue 1122 sources, Zahida Bibi, lived at Chak 30-A, Liaqatpur, with her two minor daughters -- Bushra (4) and Shabana (3) -- while her husband, Shahid Sial, had gone to Karachi in search of a job.

The sources said Zahida made a phone call to her husband asking him to send him money for daily expenditures. When Shahid told her that he had no money as he was jobless, the couple had a quarrel.

At this, Zahida got enraged and jumped into 3-R Canal near the village after throwing her two minor daughters into it.

Some locals who witnessed the incident jumped into the canal and rescued the mother and her daughters.

However, one of the minor girls, Bushra died on the spot, while the other died while being shifted to hospital by Rescue 1122 personnel.

Zahida was said to be stable in the hospital.
