FEB 13th was the 142nd birthday of Sir Dr Ziauddin Ahmed, a renowned educationist, mathematician and a genius. Today very few people remember his immense contribution to the subcontinent’s Muslims when they were not keen on acquiring modern and scientific education.
He was considered an expert in the fields of mathematics and economics. His contribution as a member of the Central Assembly of undivided India were acknowledged by the British and he was knighted. He proved himself an able politician by striving for the rights of Muslims and furthering their national interests.
Dr Ziauddin took the initiative to introduce modern education in scientific subjects and mathematics at Aligarh University and spent his life serving Aligarh and the education sector. For this service, he is remembered as the builder of Aligarh University.
Since Dr Ahmed has left an indelible mark on the education system and the Pakistani people owe him a great debt, the least the nation can do to acknowledge his services is to add a chapter on him in the syllabus of schools and colleges.
