RAWALPINDI: A suspected robber was killed and three accomplices of a seven-member gang were injured during two encounters with police in Waris Khan and Adiala Road on Friday.

The first encounter took place when a police party conducted a raid to arrest the suspects, residing in a house on Sarfraz Road in the Waris Khan area.

According to the police, the culprits opened fire on the police party which led to retaliation from the police.

Waliyat Shah and his accomplice Noor Khan were later shifted to the hospital where Waliyat Shah succumbed to his injuries while his accomplice was taken into custody.

The remaining members of the gang escaped and the police are searching for them.

The second encounter occurred on Adiala Road during which two suspected robbers, identified as Naeem Khan and Anwar Zaib, were injured.

The other three accomplices managed to escape.

The injured were shifted to the hospital while raids were underway to arrest the other suspects, police said.

According to police the gang had been involved in more than 50 incidents of street crime and with the arrests of the remaining suspects, crime wave will be controlled.
