EOBI pension

APROPOS the clarification by the EOBI management (Feb 13). The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Zulfi Bukhari, had announced on Dec 12 to further increase EOBI pension by Rs 2000 making the pension Rs8,500/- per month effective January 2020. Earlier the government had increased EOBI pension from Rs 5,250 to Rs 6,500 per month. Prime Minister Imran Khan has also endorsed the Rs 2,000 increase in EOBI pension but a notification is awaited in this respect.

However, responding to the thousands of queries in this respect, the Twitter account of the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resources has stated that the enhanced EOBI pension will be disbursed along with the March 2020 pensions. A EOBI official has also confirmed disbursement along with March pension.

EOBI pensioners are expecting the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government will honour its pledge to enhance EOBI pension to Rs 15,000 per month and make an announcement in this respect soon.
