MINGORA: MPA Fazal Hakim Khan here on Thursday inaugurated the newly-established burns, trauma and plastic surgery unit in Saidu Group of Teaching Hospitals.

He said that the burns unit was made functional where patients from Swat and other districts would get quality treatment. He said that the unit named after Dr Adnan and was equipped with state-of-the-art machinery, professional staff and all other facilities.

“This is one of the modern burn, trauma and plastic surgery units in Malakand division where patients will get quality and modern treatment facilities, said the MPA. He added that provision of modern health facilities to people was the top priority of government.

Dr Israrul Haq, the chief executive of the hospital, said on the occasion that the unit was needed in Swat as majority of the people, who suffered burn injuries, would lose their lives due to lack of proper burn and trauma centres in the district.

“Now such patients will not be taken to big cities as they will receive treatment here in the hospital. The professional staff will provide quality treatment to them,” he said.

Dr Israr said that a full-fledged burns, trauma and plastic surgery hospital would be constructed for which feasibility report was completed.

He said that death ratio among burn patients was higher in the country. He said that the ratio lower in the developed countries.

He said that the existing five-bed intensive care unit in the hospital was also insufficient for the large population of Swat.

“We are also working on extension of ICU and hope that it will be extended to 20-bed by next year,” he said, adding that the hospital required trained doctors and cardiologists.
