MUZAFFARGARH: Eight members of a family, including four children, were killed and six others injured in a three-storey building collapse here on Tuesday at Qinwan Chowk.

Deputy Commissioner Amjad Shoaib Tareen said owner Anwar Khan had removed pillars at the ground floor to convert shops into a hall while his family was residing in upper storeys. He said he had directed the additional deputy collector general to probe the matter within a day.

The deceased have been identified as Anwar Khan, Zahida Bibi (45), Jameela Bibi (70), Ghafooran Bibi (65), Samra (10), Umme Habiba (1), Hasnain (14).

The injured are Saqib, Faisal Sardar, Azeem Sardar, Sheraz, Shafiq and Waseem.

According to Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Hassan Raza Hashmi, 13 injured were brought to DHQ hospital. Of them, three women, a man and four children succumbed to their injuries while six are under treatment.

This correspondent learnt that the building had been built around 100 years ago.
