KARACHI: A 38-year-old man attempted to kill his two children by administering poisonous substance to them before committing suicide in Frere area on Wednesday evening, according to police and hospital officials.

They added that the man gave poison to his children and later on also took poisonous juice himself and died.

Dr Seemin Jamali, executive director of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre said that Rehan Suleman was brought dead to the hospital with suspected poisoning.

His two children identified as Mohammed Ibrahim, 4, and Muneeza, 11, were shifted to intensive care unit of National Institute of Child Health.

The girl’s condition was stable but the boy was said to be critical and put on a ventilator, added Dr Jamali.

A senior police officer quoting the wife and daughter of the deceased man said that he (Rehan) first gave some type of poison to his son and daughter and then he drank two to three glasses of the same poison. He died while being taken to the hospital. The incident occurred inside a home located in Delhi Colony.
