GHALANAI: Mardan DIG Sher Akbar Khan has said that jirga is a strong tribal institution and they can effectively resolve petty disputes among tribesmen through this forum.
He was speaking at a ceremony held in connection with formation of first dispute resolution council in Mohmand tribal district on Monday. DPO Fazal Ahmad Jan, tribal elders and police officers were also present on the occasion. Earlier, the DIG administered oath to 21 members of the council.
He said that jirga was the strength of tribal system that could easily resolve problems and disputes among local people. He said that the region was badly affected by militancy and the DRC should play an exemplary role in the resolution of problems of people.
The DIG said that jirga was given a legal status after formation of DRC. He added that police and local elders would resolve amicably all the issues in the tribal district with the help of DRC.
