ISLAMABAD: The promising Mohammad Shoaib continued his giant-killing run during the Begum Kulsum Saifullah Khan National Ranking Tennis Championship when he stunned sixth-seeded Heera Ashiq at PTF Complex on Friday to move into the semi-finals.

Shoaib, who moved into quarters after defeating Davis Cupper and third seed Shahzad Khan, played brilliantly to tame Heera 7-6 (7-4), 6-4. Top seed Aqeel Khan, second seed Muzammil Murtaza and Mohammad Abid also moved into semi-finals.

In the women’s tournament, Mahin Aftab was a surprise winner over top seed Sara Mansoor, who quit their semi-final clash due to illness after losing the first set 5-7. In the final, Mahin will face Sarah Mahboob Khan, who beat Noor Malik 6-2, 6-1.

Ladies singles (semi-finals): Sarah Mahboob Khan bt Noor Malik 6-2, 6-1; Mahin Aftab bt Sara Mansoor 7-5, Sara retired.

Boys’ 18 & under (quarter-finals): Hamid Israr bt Aqib Hayat 7-5, 6-4; Subhan bin Salik bt Mahatir Mohammad 6-3, 6-2; Hashish Kumar bt Faizan Fayyaz: 4-6, 6-3, 6-1; Mohammad Shoaib bt Nalyn Abbas 6-3, 6-2.
