KARACHI: The federal government has been asked to approach Indonesia for issuance of quota for importing kinno from Pakistan.

Waheed Ahmed, Patron-in-Chief of Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association (PFVEA), had informed Commerce Adviser Abdul Razak Dawood that the country’s citrus exports may suffer if Indonesia could not release import quota for the fruit.

In a letter to the adviser, Waheed said despite the preferential trade agreement Indonesia is not offering any incentive and treating Pakistan just like other countries for importing fruits.

Usually, the quota for import of kinno is released in January every year.

He said around 1,700 containers of kinno were exported to Indonesia last season. Despite the passage of two weeks, neither quota was released nor any container was transported to Indonesia this season.

Indonesia is a good market and if the quota is not conditioned, export of kinno can be doubled, he said.

He said Pakistan can easily launch export to Indonesia from mid of December till April and the volume of export can go up to 3,400 containers.
