Boeing makes emergency landing

BREST: A British Boeing 737 with 144 passengers on board made an emergency landing in northwest France late on Friday after experiencing a pressurization problem.

An official at the office of the prefecture in the Finistere region indicated that the Astreus Airlines charter aircraft flying from the Mediterranean island of Menorca to Leeds in northern England had to descend rapidly because of depressurization.

“The plane descended quite quickly and landed without difficulty,” the official said. No injuries were reported, but one person was treated for shock and three passengers complained of the effects of the rapid descent, a fire fighter at the airport told AFP.

Accident investigators are seeking to find out whether rapid depressurization played a role in the disaster in Greece last Sunday in which a similar aircraft operated by Cyprus Helios Airways crashed with the loss of all 121 people abroad.—AFP
