KARACHI, Jan 16: Two events have been chalked out to mark the day of shifting of the University of Karachi to its present site fifty years ago, said KU sources.

The Unikarians — an alumni body — has announced to hold a march from Silver Jubilee gate to the administration block of the university at 4pm on Jan 18. The march is likely to be joined by the city Nazim and former vice chancellors of the universities.

A seminar is also scheduled on Thursday at the Arts Auditorium of the university in connection with the new campus day.

Speakers of the seminar on the topic “University of Karachi- Past, Present and Future”, include vice chancellor of the university, Dr Zafar Saeed Saify, deputy chief of Jamaat-i- Islami, Prof Ghafoor Ahmed, besides ex-vice chancellors of the university.

Accidents: A meeting was held on the campus on Wednesday on “safe traffic management”. It was presided over by VC Dr. Zafar Saeed Saifi.

The meeting, attended by EDO Transport and Communications Malik Zaheerul Islam and SSPs Rehmat Khan, and Aftab Pathan, discussed the installation of traffic signals, setting up of traffic police post, speed-breakers and zebra crossing at the university gates, adds APP.

The participants of the meeting stressed that after the revival of KCR, planning be undertaken keeping in view of the future needs of university students and a railway station be set up near Karachi University campus.

They were also of the view that the facility of overhead bridge and underpass be provided so as to ensure that the university students cross the road safely.
