Ghizer’s frozen lake hosts winter sports competitions

GILGIT: Winter sports competitions were held at the frozen Khalti Lake in Ghizer district on Friday, providing excitement and joy to the people.

The sports competitions included football, ice hockey and ice skating.

The competition of ice hockey was won by Gamas-A team and ice football by Khalti-A team.

Faiz Ahmed was declared winner of the ice skating competition.

The closing ceremony was held at the lake, attended among others by chief minister‘s adviser Ghulam Mohammad, Ghizer deputy commissioner Dildar Malikand and other government officials.

Minster for tourism, Fida Khan, who was the chief guest, distributed prizes among the players.

On the occasion, he said sports activities at the frozen lake had been arranged for last two years, providing recreational activities to youngsters.

He wowed to expand the sports activities at the Khalti Lake from next year to make it a winter tourism destination.

At the end of the competitions, a musical show was also organised at the lake, with participants dancing to the music at the ice.

Meanwhile, ice hockey championship’s season 2 continued at the frozen water pool at Altit, Hunza, on Friday.

Two teams each of boys and girls are participating in the competition.

A colorful musical programme was arranged during the festivities.

Vista Hotel won the third match of the ice hockey defeating Hidden Paradise 6-3.

The event has been organised by local entities -- the Altit Scarf, Sports Club and Rising Federation.

The final match of the competition will be held on Sunday.
