KARAK: A health centre in remote Kandokhel area of Karak has long been without a medical doctor and a woman medical officer, thanks to the apathy of the department concerned, complained elders on Monday. They said that the building of the health centre was also in dilapidated condition.

Talking to reporters here, Ajab Khan, Waheed Jan, Amanullah, Niaz Khan, Islam Badshah and others said the patients were taken to the district headquarters hospital, Karak, or other health facilities due to absence of doctors in the local health centre.

They pointed out that the health centre had only a dispenser and complained that its building was in a shambles and could collapse any time. They said they had brought the issue into the notice of the elected representatives and the successive district health officers, but to no avail.

They claimed that through media they wanted to ask the quarters concerned to reconstruct the health centre’s building and also appoint doctors to the facility so the people could get quality healthcare at their doorsteps.

They also demanded construction of a road to the area to curb accidents occurring because of a dirt track. They threatened to hold protests if the quarters concerned did pay heed to their genuine demands.
