ISLAMABAD, Aug 16: The invitation brochures sent out for Pakistan’s Infrastructure Projects Conference 2005 do not include parts of occupied Kashmir in an image of Pakistan’s map, causing embarrassment to the organizers, Dawn has learnt.

The invitation brochure, bearing insignia like “endorsed by the government of Islamic Republic of Pakistan,” and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting being the “official media” for the conference, informs the recipients that the two-day conference is being organized from September 13-14. However, instead of bearing the official map of Pakistan as issued by the Survey of Pakistan, the brochure has an Indian version of the map, with the orange colour of the Indian flag prominent in the brochure. The brochure says President Gen Pervez Musharraf would inaugurate the conference and deliver keynote address.

“The publication of an Indian version of Pakistani map on a brochure and endorsed by the government will further vent air to sell-out on Kashmir,” said a source.

When contacted, officials said the brochure, made by a firm in Singapore, had caused considerable embarrassment to the government, and the officials concerned were considering getting the brochures printed again.

Pakistan’s high commissioner in Singapore was apprised of the issue and he took the matter up with IBC Asia, the organizers of the conference.

An official said President Musharraf’s name was put on the brochure prematurely and without getting approval of the presidency if Gen Musharraf would inaugurate the event or not.

Board of Investment secretary did not give any comments despite calls to his office and the specific issue for which the comments were being sought told to his secretary.
