ISLAMABAD: Three people sustained burn injuries in a gas explosion in a restaurant in F-10 Markaz on Wednesday, police and fire department said.

Two of the injured were employees of the restaurant while the other was a passerby.

The incident took place at around 1:15pm due to gas explosion in the kitchen, set up in the basement of a multi-storey building. The kitchen, dining halls and office were set up at different floors of the building.

The incident took place when cooks were busy preparing meal in the kitchen, the restaurant officials said, adding that all of a sudden an explosion occurred and fire erupted. Windows of the buildings were also shattered.

The fire spread quickly and reached the mezzanine, first and second floors through the duct.

Traders rescued the people, including the staff and the building was gotten vacated. Police and firefighters reached the spot and it took fire tenders about an hour to extinguish the fire.

Talking to Dawn, the firefighters and police said the incident took place due to gas leakage from the line. The restaurant officials sustained burn injuries on their face, chest and hands which were not serious.
