FAISALABAD: On the call of Punjab Bar Council, the district bar association barred the entry of police on court premises and did not let them produce the under-trial prisoners in various courts on Monday.

The lawyers also observed a full-day strike and staged a protest demonstration outside the district courts against the arrest of their colleagues who were later sent to jail in connection with the brazen attack on the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC), Lahore, last week.

They chanted slogans against doctors and demanded release of the detained lawyers.

Because of the lawyers’ entry ‘ban’, police could not produce under-trial prisoners in the sessions courts, while their strike also created problems for the litigants.

TORTURE CASE: Mamoonkanjan police failed to arrest the six suspects who allegedly tortured and humiliated a volleyball player for joining their rival team.

Footages shared with the media showed the victim, Farhan, being subjected to torture naked for refusing to join the team of the suspects, including Zeeshan, Asrar, Ajmal and others.

In his complaint to police, Farhan said that on December 5 last he was returning home after playing a volleyball match when the suspects kidnapped him at gunpoint and took him to a deserted outhouse. The suspects stripped and tortured him and also filmed the episode.

He said they threatened him of dire consequences if he shared his plight with anyone.

The suspects also threatened him they would upload the footage on social media if he reported the matter to police.

The footage was later uploaded on social media prompting police to register a case against the suspects on Farhan’s complaint.
