Student unions

Published December 16, 2019

IN the last days of November, student solidarity marches were held in all major cities of the country. The participants demanded the restoration of student unions and better educational facilities.

In that same timeframe, a somewhat similar student march was held in New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University. Over there the students were protesting against the exorbitant increase in fees and demanding better facilities.

The students in New Delhi were chanting the revolutionary poetry of Habib Jalib and Faiz Ahmed Faiz. The protesting students in Lahore were carrying banners with the name and photos of Bhagat Singh.

This clearly shows that the students of both nations have many common values and are not barred because of border and religion. The youth of today has rejected religious extremism and division on the basis of creed from amongst them.

One earnestly prays that these little deeds of the young generation lights the torch and prepares the way for lasting peace between the two countries.
