Maisam hits unbeaten 102

KARACHI, Jan 15: Former Pakistan junior captain Maisam Hasnain struck an unbeaten 102 to help Karachi Blues declared their first innings against Rest of Sindh at 465 for seven on the second day of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Grade-I fixture at KCCA Stadium here Tuesday.

Rest of Sindh were left facing a daunting task of escaping defeat when they reduced to 120 for three at close of play. They still require 196 to avoid the follow-on.

Opener Akhtar Bangash, however, played some lovely drives as he compiled 72 off 84 balls with nine fours before a rush of blood caused his downfall.

Sindh skipper Hanif-ur-Rehman gave his side a solid start by putting on 55 for the first wicket with Akhtar, who overshadowed Shahid Qambrani (3) in the second wicket stand of 43.

But the day belonged to Maisam, who has had a chequered career since he broke into first-class cricket after skippering the likes of Saqlain Mushtaq, Azhar Mahmood and Saleem Elahi on the 1994 Junior tour to New Zealand.

Playing his first game for a long time, Maisam gleefully accepted the challenge to play some handsome strokes. Test wicket-keeper Atiq-uz-Zaman struck 36 while putting on 95 for the sixth wicket in under two hours.

The right-hander’s 137-ball knock in 206 minutes was spiced with 10 boundaries. Left-handed opener Agha Sabir added only two to his Monday tally of 152.
