SHEIKHUPURA: A Dolphin Police constable and two suspected robbers were killed in an exchange of fire between the suspects, Dolphin officials and residents of Sakham village on Sheikhupura-Muridke road in the wee hours of Sunday.

The suspects were allegedly looting commuters on Muridke Road after setting up a picket near Sakham. After receiving information, Dolphin constables Zahoor and Ijaz reached the spot. Upon seeing police, the suspects opened fire on them.

Meanwhile, some residents of Sakham village also reached the spot and fired at the suspects. In this exchange of fire, constable Ijaz was martyred and suspects Nasir and Javed also killed.

According to Muridke police, the suspects were wanted by Kasur and Okara police in various heinous crimes.

The funeral prayers of Ijaz were offered in local police lines and attended by Regional Police Officer Farooq Mazhar, District Police Officer Ghazi Salahuddin, Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Mian Akmal and others.

The RPO said the department would provide all possible facilities to Ijaz’s family.
