SARGODHA, Aug 11: At least five people were seriously injured when an election rally was attacked in Chak No 107-Sb. Reports said one Mehmood Bora, a nazim candidate from UC 130 arranged an election meeting, which was also attended by MNA Chaudhry Anwar Ali Cheema of the ruling PML. After the meeting, the participants staged a rally led by the MNA.

When the rally reached near the residence of an opponent of Bora, Raoof Bhatti, the participants reportedly raised slogans and fired in the air. In retaliation, Bhatti group opened fire on the rally, resulting in serious injuries to five people.

Atta Shaheed police have registered a case.

Meanwhile, all the accused have secured pre-arrest bail from the district and sessions court and alleged that the police were favouring the ruling party men.

SUSPENDED: DIG Pervez Akbar Lodhi has suspended Factory Area SHO for his alleged involvement in local polls.

Reports said the SHO, Shahbrez Gujjar, had picked up some workers of Awam Dost group and humiliated its leader MNA Tasneem Ahmed Qureshi, when they were celebrating the permission granted by a court to some of their allies to contest the election.

Mr Qureshi had informed the DIG about the incident, who suspended the SHO and assured the MNA that police would be impartial and nobody would be allowed to violate election rules.
