CHITRAL: Speakers at a function held here in connection with distribution of scholarships among the position-holders of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations termed modern education must for progress and prosperity.

The scholarships are given to the top six position-holders every year by Qari Faizullah, the president of a Karachi-based seminary Madressa Imam Mohammad since 2003.

Deputy commissioner Naveed Ahmed, Khateeb of Shahi Masjid Maulana Khaleequz Zaman and social worker Qari Jamal A Nasir gave away the Iqra Award and scholarship money to the recipients.

The students winning Iqra scholarships included Ziaul Ibrar of GHS Reshun and Khaliqdad of Frontier Corps School (Rs50,000 each), Danish Habib of GHS Chitral and Farheen Gul of Langlands Public School (Rs40,000 each) and Saeedullah of GHS Koghuzi and Mehak Afzal of Qutaiba Public School (Rs30,000 each).

Every year, a scholarship of Rs20,000 is also given to a Kalash student, which was won this year by Mast Begum of GHS Bumburate.

Speaking on this occasion, the Chitral DC appreciated Qari Faizullah for encouraging competition among the local students.

Other speakers recalled that Qari Faizullah had also helped in the rehabilitation of victims of natural disasters during the last couple of years in different parts of the district.
