PESHAWAR, Aug 10: US principal officer Michael A. Spangler visited Darul Uloom Sarhad and exchanged views with its patron-in-chief Maulana Khalid Banoori here on Wednesday.

“The teachings of Islam have always inspired me and it has the potential to broaden the insight. I feel quite comfortable visiting a seminary,” Mr Spangler told journalists on the occasion.

He said his visit would be helpful in broadening his understanding of Islam.

The Peshawar-based diplomat praised the Muslim scholars who had shown willingness to work for bridging the gulf between Muslims and followers of other religions.

He hoped that they would play a key role in promoting brotherhood and tolerance among people across the globe.

During the visit, Maulana Banoori briefed the US diplomat on the century-old role of seminaries and said that until a few years back madressah students were unfamiliar with the word terrorism.

He told the guest that there was no room for terrorism in Islam and allegations in this regard being levelled by vested interests.

He appreciated the services the US had rendered for the cause of humanity across the globe.

He said that India in an attempt to divert the world attention from its brutalities in Kashmir had labelled seminaries as sanctuaries of terrorism.

He underlined the role of Hasba (accountability) in the Muslim society and said that the enforcement of the Hasba law would end injustices in society. He inform the US diplomat about the role of Mohtasib under the Hasba law.
