KARACHI, Aug 10: The former city nazim, Niamatullah Khan, on Tuesday accused the Muttahida Qaumi Movement of betraying the people of Karachi despite the fact that the people had sent them to the corridors of power for five consecutive times.

Addressing a welcome reception given in his honour by the National Labour Federation (NLF), he said development projects had been completed during his tenure from the very revenue collected by the city government, while the budget of the city government had increased each year.

“We introduced a culture of honesty and trust and it was due to these characteristics that works were completed,” he said.

Pointing out the development works done by his government, Mr Niamat said his government had signed an agreement with a US firm for a desalination plant. Besides, he said that a project had also been designed for providing water to industries and mills in Site by treating sewerage water.—PPI
