KOHAT: An undertrial constable has escaped from the heavily-guarded quarter guard in Kohat police lines.

An official requesting not to be named said that the constable, Hidayat Ullah, was arrested on the orders of district police and put in the quarter guard. He was undergoing inquiry by a DSP for his connections with criminal gangs.

The police official claimed that he managed to flee when he was performing duty of fatigue outside the quarter guard. Answering a question, he said that his friends in the police department helped him to escape.

He said that an FIR had been lodged against him under section 118 for escaping. He further said that he had been terminated after 20 years of service.

IQBAL’S PHILOSOPHY HIGHLIGHTED: The Kohat University of Science and Technology organised various competitions on the philosophy of self-righteousness (Khudi) and personality of Hazrat Allama Mohammad Iqbal among the students of boys and girls schools and colleges on Thursday.

The students took part in calligraphy, paintings, quiz, debate, speech, photography and article writing competitions besides verbal game of saying couplets of poems (bait bazi).

The event was organised by director of co-curricular activities Dr Yaqub Khattak of Physics Department where vice-chancellor Dr Jameel Ahmed was the chief guest. DPO Wahid Mehmood was the guest of honour.

In his speech, Dr Jameel said that Allama Iqbal saw the dream of Pakistan which was materialised by Quaid-i-Azam. About the writings of Iqbal, he said that ethically the word “Khudi” meant self-reliance, self-respect and self-confidence when such a thing was necessary to the cause of truth, justice and duty.

The winning students were given prizes and commendation certificates.

FIRST AID TRAINING: The Pakistan Red Crescent Society provided first aid training to students and teachers at the Hangu campus of Kohat University of Science and Technology on Thursday.

First aid boxes and certificates for rendering services during Muharram were also distributed among the participants.

PRCS provincial coordinator Sajid Ali Khan, district education officer Laal Baz Khan and other officials attended the training session.
