LANDI KOTAL: The protesting teachers ended their weeklong boycott of classes in 25 government schools in Bazaar Zakhakhel area after an unconditional apology by volunteers of a local peace committee.

All Government Schools Teachers Association President Naseer Shah told mediapersons here on Thursday that the protesting teachers would resume their duties on Friday (today) as Zakhakhel peace volunteers involved in thrashing of four teachers of a local government school had apologised for their misconduct.

He said that the issue was resolved after intervention by some local elders who arranged a meeting of the protesting teachers and activists of the peace committee. He said that the decision to end their boycott was taken after an assurance by the peace committee activists to ensure full security of all the teachers performing duties in government schools.

Meanwhile, the administration in Bara in collaboration with local traders association, members of Qaumi committee and mediapersons formed a price review committee and dispute resolution committee.

The meeting also reviewed progress on the ongoing development schemes, approved and financed by Islamic Relief. The price review committee later visited Bara market and checked prices of daily use items.
