ISLAMABAD, Aug 8: The Election Commission announced on Monday that it had finalized all arrangements for the first and second phase of the local government polls. The Election Commission secretary, Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, made the announcement during a briefing on the upcoming elections.

Mr Dilshad said the Election Commission had been strictly observing the entire election process and had even set up a special cell to redress complaints about the upcoming polls.

The Election Commission official urged candidates to strictly follow the code of conduct so that the elections could be held in a peaceful environment.

In reply to a query, he said that old identity cards could also be used for casting one’s vote.

Meanwhile, the election campaign has gained momentum across the country as the polling dates for the first two phases loomed closer.—PPI
