ISLAMABAD, Aug 8: The district returning officer (DRO) of Tharparkar in a report to the Election Commission has denied receiving complaints from any candidate, proposer or a seconder of kidnapping or prevention from appearing for scrutiny of nomination papers for the local government elections.
Acting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, taking suo motu notice, had directed the DRO and the district sessions judge Tharparkar to conduct an inquiry into reports that some union council nazims and naib nazims had returned unopposed because of manipulations in the district.
In his report, the DRO stated that Dodo Bajeer, Jan Mohammad Wassayopoto, Motomal and Mohammad Essa Lund in their statements had denied having been abducted or pressurized into withdrawing their papers in favour of their opponents.
The candidates had withdrawn from the contest at their own will and without any pressure, the report said.
