ISLAMABAD, Aug 8: The generic instructors courses of essential surgical skills with an emphasis on maternal and child health concluded at Islamic International Medical Complex, Islamabad.

The medical complex is a teaching hospital of Islamic International Medical College affiliated with Riphah International University and recognized by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council.

The courses were developed by the World Health Organization in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Child Advocacy International and Advanced Life Support Group of UK keeping in view the local requirements with an objective to decrease infant and maternal mortality rate in Pakistan. The WHO representative in Pakistan, Dr Khalif Bille, was the chief guest at the certificate distribution ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, he said essential surgical skill with emphasis on emergency maternal and child health programme would be incorporated in the next biennial work plan of the WHO in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.

In all, 24 doctors and nurses, selected from the courses held earlier in seven districts, attended the training.
