ISLAMABAD, Aug 7: Pakistan People’s Party Deputy Secretary- General and the leader of opposition in the Senate Senator Mian Raza Rabbani has questioned the assertion of the returning officer of Tharparkar who, in his report, stated that despite publicity no one came to register complaints.

Mr Rabbani, in a letter to the chief election commissioner, stated that if the Election Commission could guarantee a safe passage to and from the returning officer’s office and provide reasonable safeguards against any action by the administration, a large number of complainants would be registered not only in the constituency but throughout the province.

In a separate letter, Senator Rabbani informed the CEC of alleged harassment of women candidates in Thatta district. Giving details, he stated that Jannat Jalbani, an Awam Dost Panel candidate for the General Council seat in UC-2 Sajawal, Thatta, was kidnapped on July 30 and released two days later. During her captivity, she was threatened, therefore, she has now decided not to contest the elections.

Likewise, Ms Noorani, another Awam Dost candidate for the General Council seat in UC-2 Sajawal, was kidnapped on July 30, and released two days later. Subsequently, upon her return, she refused to contest the elections.
