QUETTA: The Balochistan Assembly’s special committee set up to hold an inquiry into the blackmailing and harassment scandal of the Balochistan University on Wednesday made MPA Mah Jabeen Sheeran its chairperson and started investigation into the matter.

Speaker Qudoos Bizenjo had constituted the committee after the house held a debate on the scandal last week.

The committee at its meeting presided over by Ms Sheeran decided that the committee after a thorough probe would submit its report to the assembly within 10 days as directed by the speaker.

The members of the committee, Mir Asad Baloch, Mir Saleem Ahmed Khosa, Danesh Kumar, Sana Baloch, Nasarullah Zerey and Shakeela Naved Dahwar attended the meeting. Other three members remained absent.

Ms Sheeran said that inquiry committee would visit the university on Thursday (today) and meet the caretaker vice chancellor and students. The members, she added, have been directed to visit canteen, hostel and surveillance room and submit a report in the next few days.

The committee will interview male and female students about blackmailing and harassment reports.

The Women Action Forum condemned the incident and called for a fair inquiry, trial and punishment for those found involved in it.
