Wapda swimmers dominate

PESHAWAR, Aug 6: Wapda swimmers, competing in only Under-18, led the medals table on the opening day with four gold and five silver medals in the National junior age group swimming championship at Adil Khan swimming pool on Saturday. Having services of international Shahbaz Khan, Sikander Khan and Usman Javed, Wapda grabbed gold and silver medals in almost all Under-18 events.

Wapda received a stunning response when Punjab swimmer Abdul Aziz touched the finishing line with micro-seconds lead in the 200m Breast Stroke final before Wapda’s Sikandar Khan.

Hosts NWFP won a silver and three bronze medals while Sindh with four gold medals trailing at second, followed by Punjab with three golds.

100m butterfly U-18: Sikandar Khan (Wapda); Usman Javid (Wapda); Imran Hashim (NWFP).

200m breaststroke U-18: Abdul Aziz (Punjab); Sikandar Khan (Wapda); Mazhar Hayat (Wapda)

200m breaststroke U-16: Salam Sadat (Sindh); Rohail Waqar (Punjab); Zain Tariq

200m U-14 backstroke: Mohammad Ali (Punjab), Adnan Hashim (NWFP); Ansar Kareem (Sindh)

50m butterfly U-18: Sikandar Khan (Wapda), Adnan Hashim (NWFP); Ansar Kareem (Punjab)

100m butterfly U-16: Ramiz Azam (Sindh); Yahya (Punjab); Agha Sarwar (Sindh)
