HYDERABAD, Aug 6: A total of 1,219 candidates withdrew from the local body elections in the second phase for six categories in six districts. The districts are: Hyderabad, Matiari, Dadu, Jamshoro, Badin and Tando Mohammad Khan.

According to the election commission record, 577 candidates withdrew from 280 Muslim general seats, 61 Muslim general (women), 121 peasant and worker, 41 peasant and worker (women), 28 minority and 46 pairs of nazim and naib nazims.

In Matiari district, 144 candidates withdrew from 77 for Muslim general seats, five Muslim general women, 34 peasant and worker, five peasant and worker women, nine minority and 14 pairs of nazim and naib nazim.

In Dadu district, 177 candidates withdrew from the contest.

They included 85 Muslim general seats, nine Muslim general (women), 31 peasant and worker, 13 peasant and worker (women), three minority and 36 pairs of nazim and naib nazim.

About 79 candidates withdrew in Jamshoro district from 41 Muslim general (men) seats, five Muslim general (women), 10 peasant and worker, four peasant and worker (women), four minority and 15 pairs of nazim and naib nazim.

In Badin district, 192 candidates withdrew from 82 Muslim general (men) seats, 11 Muslim general (women), 30 peasant and worker, nine peasant and worker (women), 25 minority and 35 pairs of nazim and naib nazim.

In Tando Mohammad Khan district, 50 candidates withdrew from 30 Muslim general (men) seats, five Muslim general (women), eight peasant and worker, three minority and four pairs of nazim and naib nazim.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad DRO Zaheer Leghari disposed of 64 appeals, accepting 22 and rejecting 42 against acceptance of nominations forms of different candidates by returning officers (ROs) concerned for six categories in the six districts.

The break-up showed that 36 appeals were rejected and 19 accepted for nazim and naib nazim in all six districts, one each was rejected for Muslim general (men) and Muslim general (women), two were accepted and one rejected for peasant and worker (men), two were rejected for peasant and worker (women), one each was rejected and accepted for minority.

Likewise, the DRO disposed of 259 appeals against rejection of nomination forms of candidates by returning officers concerned for all six categories in the districts.

He rejected 79 appeals and accepted 180.

About 26 appeals were accepted and 17 rejected for pair of nazim and naib nazim, 72 were accepted and 27 rejected for Muslim general (men), 20 were accepted and eight rejected for Muslim general (women), 37 were accepted and 14 rejected for peasant and worker, nine each were rejected and accepted for peasant and worker (women) and 16 were accepted and for rejected for minority.
