THIS is apropos your editorial ‘NAB’s shame’ (Oct 8). One can’t stop thinking about the course we have chosen for our country. A seemingly autonomous body such as National Accountability Bureau (NAB) with set norms and procedures abruptly announced a change in working procedures and future course of action just because the prospective affectees (business community) have voiced concerns over NAB’s role to the ‘highest’ in power corridors.

NAB is already accused by the opposition of being politicised. Instead of working towards improving its image and credentials, NAB seems to lend credence to the apprehensions about it.

The right course of action for an accountability body like NAB should have been to rebuff all these premonitions and to show a strong resolve to conduct evenhanded accountability.

An abrupt change of stance casts serious doubts about NAB’s actions in the past.
