GUJRANWALA: The Punjab government removed on Wednesday Gujranwala Development Authority (GDA) chairman Sheikh Amir Rehman for allegedly giving privileges to the owners of private housing societies.
Mr Rehman told Dawn that he gave resignation from his post. His supporters said that Mr Rehman resigned because he got frustrated for not receiving funds for development schemes from the government.
Mr Rehman is a local Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader and he was appointed the GDA chairman in 2018.
PTI leaders Shahid Mumtaz Lone, Suleman Chughtai and Musharaf Bhatti said Mr Rehman gave no objection certificates (NOC) to the owners of various illegal private housing schemes and caused a loss of billions to the national exchequer.
