HARIPUR, Aug 5: To strengthen the local government system at the grass-roots level and encourage people’s participation in the voting process, an information caravan was launched here on Thursday.

Dihat Dost Tanzeem, Islamabad, and Women Voice, Haripur, launched the caravan jointly in collaboration with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

The caravan, which was part of the SDC-funded Grass-roots Democracy Support Programme (GDSP), was being carried out in three union councils of Sikandar Pur, Haripur city north and Ali Khan.

Volunteers were distributing print material containing merits of basic democracy, district government system, empowerment of masses particularly women at union council level and encouragement for voters to ensure their participation in electing eligible and pro-people local government representatives during the upcoming local body elections.

The caravan would continue till August 16.
