GWADAR: A strike was observed in Turbat, the headquarters of Kech district, on Monday in protest against the deteriorating law and order situation in the town.

The All Parties Social Activist Alliance (APSAA) had given the strike call that was supported by all major political parties, including National Party, Balochistan National Party-Awami, BNP-Mengal, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl, Pakistan Peoples Party, Jamaat-i-Islami, Anjuman Tajran, Kech civil society and the legal fraternity.

All markets, business centres, banks and educational institutions remained closed throughout the day while traffic on roads was thin as compared to normal days. The Kech Bar Association also boycotted court proceedings, causing inconvenience to litigants.

The administration had made tight security arrangements to avoid any unpleasant incident. However, no such incident was reported from any part of the city.

APSAA activists said that lawlessness had increased in Kech district and had become a serious cause of concern for people.
