KARACHI: A woman and her infant son were hit and killed by a train at Drigh Road on Monday, Railway police said.

They added that Tahira Iqbal, 35, and her son, Munib Rehman, 2, were killed by Bolan Mail coming from Quetta to Karachi.

Drigh Railway police official Mohammed Tanveer said the victim was deaf and mute. She with her son and a sister, who was also stated to be deaf, were on their way to Drigh Colony when the train hit them. She died on the spot. Her son was taken to a nearby hospital in a critical condition where he was also pronounced dead. Their bodies were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre to fulfil legal formalities.

The dead woman was a resident of Baldia Town. She had gone there to offer condolence over the death of their relative’s child when the tragedy struck them.
