RAWALPINDI, Aug 5: A team of Foreign Agriculture Services, United States Department of Agriculture (FAS/USDA), US Embassy, called on the Vice Chancellor of the University of Arid Agriculture (UAA) Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood Khan here on Friday and discussed with him the possibility of cooperation between the UAA and the University of Kabul in the field of agriculture.

The team consisted of Howard Anderson, Agriculture Attache, Mark Holt, Chief of Project Development Management Centre from USDA, US Embassy, and Kevin McNamara, Professor at Purdue University.

The team held a meeting with the vice chancellor and discussed the possibility of admission of Afghan students at the UAA, short and long-term training programmes for them, fee structure and amenities to be offered by the university.

Possibilities of exchange of students and the faculty members between the UAAR and the University of Kabul for improving mutual understanding in the field of science and technology, especially in agriculture, remained the main focus of the discussion.

The US team was of the view that Afghanistan, where reconstruction process had started, could benefit greatly from the experiences of Pakistan in agriculture sector keeping in view its agricultural background.

They said exchange of faculty between the UAA and the Kabul University would be of great help for the faculty of the latter, as the former was playing an excellent role in the development of its agriculture sector and had an experienced faculty.

Earlier, in the introductory session, Dr Khalid Mahmood Khan briefed the team on the functioning of different departments working at the varsity.
