RAWALPINDI: Three patients died in the dengue ward of Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) on Wednesday.

Of the three, Mohammad Zahid was a confirmed dengue patient, a senior doctor said. He said the results of dengue serology of the other two patients - Rashid Ahmed and Mohammad Amir - were being awaited.

According to the hospital officials, Zahid, 48, a resident of Chittian Hattian, died in the intensive care unit.

He was diagnosed with dengue five days back and was admitted to the hospital.

Rashid, 50, and Amir, 40, residents of Islamabad, were in the ICU where they died.

Both patients are suspected to have been affected by dengue virus and were shifted to the hospital by their families four days ago, the officials said.

The doctors took their blood samples and sent them to laboratory for dengue serology, but their results have still not been received.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Saifullah Khan Dogar on Wednesday reviewed the anti-dengue drive.

The meeting was informed that 294 new patients had reached the three government-run hospitals and 363 patients were discharged.

A senior official told Dawn that a total of 815 patients were admitted to the dengue wards of the three hospitals with 563 being confirmed dengue patients. He said at present, no dengue patient was in serious condition at the hospitals. However, he added that patients were still coming from various parts of the city and cantonment areas.
