No cable publicity

LAHORE, Aug 4: City District Government Lahore caretaker and DCO Khalid Sultan has imposed an immediate ban on publicity campaigns of local body councillors and unregistered doctors and hakims on cable networks.

The DCO imposed the ban while speaking at a meeting of the Pakistan Cable Operators Association and city district government officers here on Thursday.

He said the cable publicity of councillors was against the code of conduct prescribed by the election commission and would not be permitted.

Similarly, he said the publicity of unregistered doctors and hakims was no different than promotion of quackery and could not be permitted.

He also warned cable operators against transmitting recordings of vulgar stage plays.

Meanwhile, Badaruz Zaman, the district returning officer and Lahore District and Sessions Judge, reviewed arrangements for conducting fair, free and transparent local body elections in the city.

During his visit to offices of different ROs and AROs, he said that every assistance would be provided to the election staff for making foolproof arrangements.

He directed the ROs and AROs to ensure strict adherence to code of ethics notified by the election commission for candidates and their supporters for maintaining friendly atmosphere during the electioneering.

The DRO has established two election cells and a complaint cell in the city to facilitate candidates and voters during the elections.

The complaint cell headed by an additional district and sessions judge will entertain complaints with regard to local government elections and will help redress their genuine grievances.— Reporter
