Body to monitor tubewell package

Published August 5, 2005

LAHORE, Aug 4: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has constituted a nine-member committee to monitor the process and implementation of the recently-announced concessional power scheme for the tubewells being used for agriculture purposes.

The committee will be headed by Agriculture Minister Arshad Khan Lodhi, while Agriculture Task Force additional secretary Capt Atta Mohammad will act as its secretary.

The agricultural minister had discussed the matter with the representatives of various farmers fora, and the Kisan Board had suggested that there was a need to form a committee to ensure the implementation of the scheme in letter and spirit.

The committee would monitor the implementation process and help agriculturists avail this facility.

The chief minister had announced a 20 per cent concession in electricity tariff for tubewells at fixed hours — from 10pm to 6am. At present, as many as 87,000 tubewells are using electricity in the agriculture sector.
