HYDERABAD, Aug 4: The People’s Party Parliamentarians has appealed to the Acting Chief Election Commissioner to cancel appointments and postings of civil servants recently made by the chief minister in order to avert the likelihood of violence in the local body elections.
Speaking at a press conference in Tando Mohammad Khan on Thursday, Tando Mohammad Khan district PPP president Mohammad Amin Lakho, Dr Ayub Jatt, Mashooq Bhatti and Ali Akbar Khaskheli accused the chief minister of violating the election code of conduct.
They feared that due to policies of the chief minister, bloodshed in the elections could not be ruled out. They alleged that on the pretext of holding meetings with district officers, he was issuing directives to them to crush the opposition.
They further charged that federal and provincial ministers were also violating the code of conduct.
Directly addressing secret agencies, the PPP leaders urged them to take notice of the alleged excesses of the chief minister. They also appealed to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the Chief Election Commissioner to seize the powers of the chief minister to ensure impartial and free elections.
UNION: The Azeem-o-Shan Cloth Market Union at a meeting held here on Thursday strongly reacted to the proposed shifting of the cloth market branch of the MCB and construction of a shopping centre at the place.
The union maintained that the builder mafia in collusion with bank officials had chalked out a scheme to construct a shopping centre by shifting the bank branch. It said traders and other account holders of the locality would face inconvenience if the branch was shifted to some other place.
It demanded that the prime minister, finance minister, governor of the State Bank and high officials of the MCB should intervene in the mater by stopping the shifting of the branch and taking action against bank officials concerned.
