KARACHI: A young labourer died when he fell from a building near Chief Minister House on Wednesday, said the Civil Lines police.

They added that two brothers were busy in shuttering work of an under-construction building, Panorama Centre, when one of them fell down.

He sustained injuries on the head and died before he could be taken to hospital. The deceased was identified as Mohammed Zubair.

The body was handed over to his relatives after fulfilling legal formalities at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

The police said the relatives did not want to pursue the case as they declared it an accident.

Man falls to death in lift shaft

A 35-year-old employee of a courier service died when he fell down in the lift shaft of a multistorey building in Garden West on Wednesday, said police. They added that Zohaib Aurangzeb died of head injuries.

Garden SHO Chaudhry Zahid Husain said that the victim was an employee of a courier service. He had gone to the ninth floor of the Shahnawaz building located at Garden Chowk to drop an envelope there.

He had used the same lift to go up and when he pushed the button of the lift to descend, the lift was not there but the door opened. Apparently, he did not realise and stepped in and fell down in the lift shaft.

After hearing screams, residents called an ambulance and took him to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The victim was a resident of Mauripur. Police said the relatives did not want to pursue the case legally.

Jobless man commits suicide

A 45-year-old unemployed man ended his life on Wednesday in F.B. Area Block-16, said police.

They added that Irfan Nauman committed suicide by hanging himself inside his home.

Yusuf Plaza SHO Anila Qadir said that he had been jobless since considerable time and ended his life due to unemployment as per family statement.
