VEHARI, Aug 3: Residents of Arain Wahin village on Wednesday brought Mailsi-Kehror Pucca Road to a standstill for some three hours and staged demonstration against the local police check post.

Led by local landlord Syed Najmul Hasan Shah, protesting villagers also burnt used tyres. They said that villagers caught five armed suspects on Tuesday night while two of them fled. Later, they handed over the three suspects, including Muhammad Yar alias Yasin and Riaz Husain, to police.

They alleged that sub-inspector Maqbool Husain summoned two of the villagers, Ramzan and Sikandar, who played a key role in capturing suspects, and tried to register a torture case against them.

On receiving information, DSP Ameer Taimoor rushed to the spot and assured demonstrators that strict action would be taken against the policemen if found guilty. On this assurance, the protesting villagers dispersed peacefully.
