MULTAN, Aug 3: Gold jewellery, cash and cell phones worth Rs205,000 were looted by robbers in two incidents in the city on Tuesday night, district police sources said on Wednesday. Shafqat Hasan of Alang Daulat Gate reported to the Lohari Gate police that he and his wife were disembarking from a rickshaw in front of their house when they were waylaid by two gunmen who deprived them of a cell phone, cash and gold jewellery worth Rs70,000.
Abdullah of S block told the New Multan police that his sister and mother were robbed of Rs45,000 in cash and gold jewellery worth Rs90,000 by two armed men in front of Jinnah Park.
LIQUOR RECOVERED: Five alleged bootleggers were arrested and 28 bottles of imported as well as locally-made liquor were recovered from their possession on Tuesday night.
District police sources said on Wednesday the Chahlyak police arrested Taj Muhammad of Gulshan Karim Colony with five bottles. The same police nabbed Jamshed Khan and Abdul Razzaq with nine bottles of imported liquor each at Kalima Chowk.
Jalalpur Pirwala Saddar police arrested Shafique with two bottles of liquor at Pul Mohkam Mangu and Jalilabad police caught Pervez with three bottles of imported liquor from Railway Road.
POLICE DRIVE: The district police have recovered stolen goods worth Rs13.51 million in a drive against crime and criminals during July.
Police sources said here on Wednesday 65 people were arrested with illicit arms. The arms recovered from their possession included a Kalashnikov, six guns, two rifles, 30 pistols, 12 revolvers, one mauser, six carbines, six daggers and 192 bullets, they added.
During the month, 87 drug pushers were nabbed along with 4.31 kilograms of hashish, 92 bottles of liquor, 40 kgs of raw opium, 1,230 litres lahen (material used in liquor) and sale proceeds from drugs amounting to Rs12.12 million.
They said six gangs of criminals were busted and 30 cases were registered against the gangsters, 24 of whom were apprehended. They claimed that 107 absconders, 164 proclaimed offenders and 26 deserters had also been arrested.
Police had registered 17 rape cases and arrested 31 accused, the sources concluded.—APP
