KARACHI, Aug 3: A huge quantity of narcotics, including 24 tons hashish, 240kg heroin, as well as 11 tons betel nuts, worth millions of dollars in the international market was destroyed by Collectorate of Customs (Preventive), at Neelam Point on Wednesday.

Collectorate of Customs (Preventive) Musarrat Jabeen ignited the drugs, which were seized in different interdictions by the staff of this collectorate during the last three years. She added that the cases of these narcotics were finalized by the Control of Narcotics Substances courts and almost the same number of the cases was still in pending.

When asked about the delay in drugs destruction, she said that this was regular practice of the department and today’s activity was part of it be-cause the seized narcotics could only be destroyed after CNS courts finalized the case.—APP
