Baqar dumps ex-champion

KARACHI, Jan 14: Unfancied Baqar Qayyum produced a major surprise when he defeated 1994 Champion Faisal Ali 5-3 on the first day in the main rounds of Sindh Cup snooker at Indus Club Bahadurabad Monday.

Faisal, seeded 18th in the event took the opening frame but Baqar potting superbly took the next three in a row to take 3-1 lead. However, Faisal pocketed the next two to draw level 3-3 before Baqar seal the fate of the match by taking the 7th frame.

Faisal Essa also put up a gritty performance to defeat Zahid Junejo 5-4 in match that went to full distance.
